Nail polish has come a long ways in the past ten years. Right along with the advancement in nail enhancements, polish has also been morphing into the new technological age. One of the newest fads in polish is magnetic polish. First came crackle polish, and then came magnetic polish right behind it.
Since the introduction of magnetic polish, I have bought exactly one bottle of the polish. I jumped on the band wagon and bought China Glaze's "Dawn To You" number 80604. It is a gorgeous color and came with it's own magnet. The magnet has three different designs: chevron, star burst, and angled stripes. While the thought of magnetic polish intregued me, I found that the polish is quite complicated (or for me it was).
How the polish is made and works is a technological wonder for most. The polish itself, while colored, has tiny little metal flakes in it. When you put it on your nails, while it is still wet, you hold the magnet right above the wet polish. We are talking about two to three millimeters above the polish, I found that any further doesn't get the flakes to rise to the top and create the design.
The pros to the polish I find to be few, but there are however a few pros. The first pro is the fact that any client coming in will be intrigued by the fact that it takes a magnet and they will buy it hook line and sinker. Another pro is the fact that you can create as many designs as are on your magnet, so the design factor is great. As you can see my pros are far and few between.
I feel that the cons to the polish have not been discussed in nail pro, nail art mag, & nail tech schools ect. One of the main reasons I hate this polish is the fact that it is tedious work holding the magnet above wet polish making sure not to touch the magnet to the wet polish. China Glaze doesn't offer to many colors as well as other companies. The colors are a select few and mostly darker colors.
While I am always looking for the next best thing or the newest fad, I overall hate this polish. Crackle polish, which came out prior to the magnetix, is a great idea and LOVE LOVE LOVE IT! The magnetic polish is hard to work with. In fact I tried selling my polish after only using it 3 or 4 times, and no one would buy it. Next I went to give it away and no one wanted it. So in my case it stays.
