Resumes Do's and Don'ts

Most Prespective employers will want you to produce a resume.  Many people are unsure of what to put and all that nice stuff.  Here I am to save the day and tell you a bit about resumes.
A professional resume describes personal and prefessional characteristics in a brief, concise manner.  Some of the things to include in the resume(in order as they should appear on the resume) are: Personal data (name address phone email), Educational background , Additional Training, Previous employement, special skills or areas of expertise, and special awards or recongition.  Also  include: References, interests, objective.
Most Microsoft Word programs have a template that will help you make the best resume possible while spell checking it all.
Try to keep it to one page.  Also look up scannable resumes now.  It's the new thing in resumes.  So you might make a scannable resume.  You can learn more about how to properly write a resume in any technical writing class, or go to the library to get a technical writing book for reference.

A Nail Tech Searching For A Job? This Is For You

Successful people in any industry do the following: Define their goals, plan ahead, keep an open mind, and continue to learn.  To find out about nail care locations and possible job locations that are hiring or interviewing for future positions, consider several of these methods:talk to nail techs in your area who are employed they will know of any available positions, check the classifieds, talk to distributor sales consultants, (if you have a good school) check the school bulletin boards, mail out your resume to local salons and spas, check out websites of nail product companies and see if they know of anything.

Verbal Communication and Being the Best You Can Be

How you speak is as important as what you say.  In other words, voice and tone are very important in communication.  How you speak and influence what you say.
Grammer if used correctly, can clearly and beautifully communicate all of your thoughts and needs.  The choice of words you use is vital to the art of conversation and will impact the listener's understanding.
Two-way communication means you have to shut up and listen to the client when he or she speaks.  You need to encourage your client to talk to you and give you feedback.  When listening to their feedback good or bad, you have to take it as constructive critisism.  Don't get mad, just take it as someone being honest with you to make your business the best it can be.
Present a pleasant greeting, smile, make contact, and have a firm handshake.  Always be polite (and this has deminished over the years and it's up to us to keep politeness to continue) and use the last name of your client.  Use a pleasant tone of voice.  Use tact to speak to the client which requires you to be truthful without being offensive.

Nonverbal Communication & Clients

Nonverbal communiation is also called body language, messages are exchanged without ever even speaking.  Appearance, posture (my one flaw), poise, touch, facial expression, gestures, eye contact, and slience on your part are all nonverbal communication examples.  A person who sits bowed over and not sitting up straight (ME) shows the client you are not sure of yourself.  Eye Contact tells your client that he or she has your full attention.  Simple eye contact can validate and reassure a client.  It's a universal sign of acknowledgement and attention.

Ancient History of Nails

For Thousands of years, a wide range of natural and manufactured products has been used by different cultures and classes to enhance and sustain the beauty of hands and feet.  For example: In some culturesm attractive hands and nails were simply seen as a part of good hygiene. In other cultures, well-manicured hands were set apart from the upper class and high society, or as a sex symbol.  Of course the tools of the trade have changed over and over again over time including to the present day.
Much like estetics industry, the practice of nail art and design has been around for centuries.  THe chinese wore nail art as early as 3,000 B.C., and so did the ancient Egyptions since around 3,500 B.C.  The Chinese found ways to use gum arabic, egg whites, gelatin, and beeswax to create nail varnishes and lacquers. Egyptians used henna to stain their nails.
Egyptians used red to show the highest social class. It is said that Cleopatra's nails were painted a deep red, Queen Nefertiti sported a flashier rudy shade of red.  If a commener painted their nails a royal color it was punishable by death.

Bought CND Monomer and Polymer Review

I recently bought CND's Radical SolarNail monomer and CND's Rentention+ Powder.  I just got done doing nails with these two new products.  The Retention+ Powder Polymer did just that.  It held it's shape.  It was kind of hard to work with because it hardens so fast.  But I got the hang of it.  The Radical SolarNail monomer worked great.   The Power is what was different and harder than normal.
Need me mind you at this point I have done nothing more than Odorless Acrylic nails.  That has to be cured with hot water.   So it was a big step.  Thanks to a friend turned guinea pig for me for this experiement was great.  I learned a lot.  Just remember that this powder polymer works fast so you have to be on top of your game when putting it on!

Sometimes a mouth shut is the money maker

I have learned a lesson since I graduated beauty school. We as nail techs or hair dressers need to learn to shut up n listen. Don't make jokes because the person listening may not know u well enough to know its a joke. I have had this lesson taught to me today. So a quiet mouth is better feed in some cases. Usually I'm the one saying a quiet mouth don't get fed. Well in the beauty industry it's the opposite. U wanna get paid shut ur mouth. Don't give your opinion unless asked. You are there to do what they want and that's it. Keep it professional even if you have known them forever.
My personal experience in this: I had a client that I have been friends with for a while. Last time I did her pedicure she was talking to me bout her wedding. So I jokingly said ill upstage u at ur wedding. Not meaning it but she took it personally. Now I'm out a client as well as a friend. She didn't take my joke well. It upset her n now more friend as a client. Even though I apologized it didn't matter it hurt her. So please learn from this experience of mine!

New Favorite Diamond French Tips *Buying Issues*

I have a new favorite product! I saw it in this month's issue of Nail Pro, and the item is nail tips.  J Magic Diamond French are tips that that are clear with a diamond pattern underneath the tip.  The diamond pattern is absolutely beautiful. These tips come in a few different colors: Purple, pink, green, blue, and my favorites clear and smoke.  All are see through with the pattern underneath the tips to shine through.
I emailed J Magic about these tips immediately, after I saw the ad in Nail Pro.  They offered me a sample, but how big the sample is I am unsure because I just emailed them yesterday.  But, they do not supply just one case to buy, you have to buy in quantity.  The email said, "minimum order quantity 50 dozen (600 cases) at $2.49 per case, or more than 500 dozen (6000)cases is $1.99 per case."
I am interested but I am a Nail Tech not a distributor so I cannot afford to buy 600 cases.  If anyone gets that many cases let me know and I will buy.  Until then I guess I will have to dream about using them.

2012 Pink of Hearts OPI Breast Cancer Polish

OPI has joined the bandwagon along with ORLY and others to make a nice quality beautiful polish and donate to the charity of their choice.  OPI's 2012 Pink of Hearts polish is gogeous! "You Glitter Be Good To Me" is a glitter based polish while "I Think In Pink" is a beautiful pink  shade with a bit of shimmer.  These two polishes can be worn separate or put them together for something I like to call a sweet combination of glitter, shimmer, and pink!
OPI has donated $25,000 to the Susan G. Komen for the Cure in connection with the 2012 Pink of Hearts collection.
Susan G. Komen for the Cure's promise is to save lives and end breast cancer forever by epowering people, ensuring quality care for all and energizing science to fine the cures.  For more info on the Susan G Komen foundation is: komen.org or facebook and twitter!

ORLY Pretty In Pink Breast Cancer Glitter Polish

Orly is one of my favorite polish brands.  I am a particular fan of their silk infused ridgefiller base coat.  Orly has joined in on the breast cancer band wagon with two of my favorite things.  My two favorite things are supporting breast cancer survivors as well as those currently sick and lots of pink glitter!!!
Orly is giving 20% of its profits from the "Pretty in Pink" polish collection to Cancer Schmancer.Did you know that in the United States one in three women have cancer, and one in every two men have breast cancer.  But did you also know that cancer found early have a 90% survival rate.  So Cancer Schmancer doesn't search for a cure to cancer, but rather concentrates on early detection and prevention of cancer.
    Visit cancerschmancer.org for more info.
